Introduction
Violent television shows are not uncommonly seen on popular networks today. From shows about serial killers such as Dexter, to gory crime scenes in CSI, and fighting and gang violence in Sons Of Anarchy, it is so easy to be exposed to violence on television. Society is shown all types of violence such murders, beatings, and fights that it has become normalized and ingrained into the culture today. Due to these television shows that the networks choose to air, they are desensitizing the young adults who watch them and causing them to become more violent when they reach adulthood. From the outcome of this research, it is intended to prove the negative effects on young adults as they are exposed to violence on television. Some of these effects include teenagers becoming less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others, and becoming more likely to behave in agressive ways towards others. The social science chosen for this specific research project is psychology. Psychology is the best social science discipline to study for this topic because it deals with the emotional and behavioural characteristics of an individual, group, or activity, therefore best suiting this topic.
